Reds Opening Day!

Wow, it was cold.

I had the pleasure of attending the 2006 opening day game with my buddy Victor. (Thanks Vic) The weather was supposed to be, err, well somewhat poopy. I knew that when I looked in the morning, a slight chance of rain and windy. But I neglected to check the temperature. So I grabbed a jacket, a simple pull-over.
Cincinnati has a huge tradition for opening day. We also had the pleasure of having President Bush throw out the first pitch. What that meant was increased traffic and the land of the free wasn’t so free. We all but got strip searched to enter the stadium. Vic and Michael got relieved of their pocket knives. Micheal’s was especially dangerous, seeing how he was carrying the famous swiss knife “champ”.

While I somewhat understand this threat on an airplane. I don’t think you’re going to hold a stadium full of people hostage with one of these. What was he going to do trim the Presidents nails or give him the hair cut of death with it? Highly unlikely given all the secret service around.

So on top of the ticket prices, and parking, both had to fork over $15 knives to get in. Where do all these knives go? People also couldn’t take in bottled water. I don’t get it.

President Bush was visible for all of 4.6 minutes. At least he wasn’t embarrassing.

The Reds on the other hand, sheesh.  5 runs in the first inning, it was brutal, but at least they battled back.  But Adam Dunn, Wow.  All I can say is Wow.  Now the official scorrer was a homer that’s for sure and he only notched one error, but he should have had at least 2 maybe 3.

Sure the wind was swirling (rolling my eyes).  That didn’t stop the cubs from robbing us from 3 home runs.  He dropped or didn’t catch 4 catchable balls.  (FIVE) Two in front of him, the one he fell down on, one he didn’t even reach for on the warning track, and one along the line.  He looked bad, very very bad.

All and all though we had a GREAT time.  Great American Ball park is amazing.  The restrooms are not capable of handling a crowd of 40,000 people.  At least not the mens rooms.  In the later stages, all hell broke loose, and if it looked like it would hold liquid it was being used as a urinal.  This included sinks and trash cans.  In one restroom the janitors closet was open and there was a line in there at that sink and the mop basin.  Amazing.  Still the line outside the restroom was far too long considering all the options that were now available.  Who designed this mess?  As a tax payer I want some money back.  Oh wait, I don’t live in Hamilton County.
Did I mention it was cold?  Way cold.  But I’d go again in a minute!

Another Bengals Season Is Over.

I’m not a big “What if” kinda of person, and I don’t like to second guess.  The Bengals got it handed to them today by Pittsburgh.  Sure Carson got hurt on the second play of the game and that didn’t help.  The ‘D’ surprisingly stopped the run better than anyone expected at least for the first half.

Kitna actually played better than anyone thought he could.  He gave us hope.  But the D couldn’t keep it close enough for him to win.  It wasn’t meant to be.

The Bengals made it to the playoffs and I suppose that should be good enough.  Would the results have been different had Carson been able to play the entire game?  I don’t know.  Closer probably, but I don’t know.  It’s not really worth debating really. It is what it is.  We now have a winning team and next year to look forward to.

At least we weren’t shut out like NY 😉 and scored more points than the Jags.

That’s all very positive.  We just need a few key players on D and perhaps a better backup.

The Bengals 0-2 in the last 2 Grrrr.

The Bengals have had a hell of a year, a hell of a run to get into the playoff for sure.

It was very clear last week when Buffalo came to town. They were 14 point underdogs to the Bengals with no chance of making the playoffs.

But they came to play, and play they did. No only did the upset the Bengals but the pretty much embarrassed them at home. Even though the Bengals played poorly, and poorly is probably an understatement, at no time during that game did I feel like the Bengals were out of it. Even when Buffalo gave them the ball back with a minute plus on the clock and no time outs. I thought, no big deal, drive down the field, field goal to tie it up, over-time and we win there.

But nope, a costly un-Carson like interception and ti was game over.

Fast forward to this week at Arrowhead. It’s hard enough to win there.

The Chiefs need a miracle from Detroit to get in. Detroit to beat Pittsburgh, like that’s going to happen. We blew a chance at the 2nd seed last week, but a win here today going into the playoffs sets the tone in my mind. a 30-3 route by the Chiefs sends a message too and it’s not a good one. I don’t care that Carson only played one series.
The way things are looking we play Pittsburgh at home next week. Pittsburgh doesn’t scare me anymore than any other team in the playoffs. Any more than the Chiefs scared me today. But look at what the Chiefs accomplished.

I fear the Bengals played above their true potential this year, or that they rested on their record the last two games. Neither of which is good.

I’m stoked we have a 11-5 record, but so does Pittsburgh.

New England finishes up at 10-6, both teams have better defenses against the run, and you win games by running the ball in the playoffs.

Pittsburgh goes into the playoffs on a 4 game win streak, the Bengals on a 2 game losing streak, this weeks a complete beating at the hands of the Chiefs.

It will be very interesting to see if Marvin will have the men ready for this game. It has a lot of the same feeling as the first time Pittsburgh came to town. That was a big game at home.  I certainly hope the outcome is better.

11-3, AFC North Champs and Playoff Bound

Whoot! Todays win against the Lions was dominating, but who hasn’t dominated the Lions? 11-3 sure is sweet. 2 more games to go.

After 15 years of playoff drought, this is well unbelievable. I saw a lions fan wearing a shirt that said. Detroit Lions, Rebuilding since 1957. I feel bad for them. However, they have had a couple teams and they have had the pleasure of watching Barry Sanders. It is a shame that they screwed that up.

Someone there should be fired though.

Who-Dey!
