2006 Christmas Recap.

Whew, it’s over! 3 solid days of people.

All in all though, the Christmas of 2006 will go down as one of the best I think.

Lots of Christmas photos are online in the Google Gallery.

I think everyone got what they asked for and/or needed. C and I scored a new TV, she scored a new Saddle, and I a PS3. ?

The kids all made out like bandits (as usual), and Maria got her sticker maker and lava lamp.

There’s nothing better than the look on a child’s face when they open gifts, especially those they aren’t expecting for whatever reason.

At times our kids definitely deserved lumps of coal so you never really know what Santa will bring.

Reflecting upon this year, I’m working on a complete survival guide for next year to make it even better.
We’ll cover topics such as;

  • Why you need a Santa Clause
  • Sickness etiquette.
  • To gift or not to gift.
  • The art of re-gifting.
  • The number of necessary Christmas Parties.
  • How to keep other kids from opening your presents.
  • How to say; “Merry Christmas??? and sound believable.
  • How to keep a gift free party, gift free.
    and much, much more.

Bengaldom happens in Denver.

Are you surprised? It’s really sad that I wasn’t surprised at all.

In fact I picked them to lose today, 31-17 and I wasn’t that far off.

I expected they’d come out ‘flat’ in this big game like in others past and I wasn’t off by much there either. That opening pick was awesome, then the Bengals gave it right back.

It’s sad that I wasn’t even worried with they were winning at half-time because I could feel it, I knew they’d blow it.

I really didn’t expect a bad snap to be the clincher.

Both Chad and Chris Henry dropped balls, catchable balls. Henry showed a little more effort, just a little but still not enough to win.

Rudi, was Rudi, he ran harder than I expected but also coughed up the ball.

I look forward to positive changes on this team for next year. Perhaps an offensive line, and a running back would be good. A solid third receiver would be nice as well but not until we get some D.

Unfortunately the Bengals will lose again on New Years Eve and finish 8-8. Go ahead write it down. The Steelers got spanked by Baltimore today and are out for sure. They are going to be fired up.

The Bengals? I don’t think they know what that means yet.

I can’t wait to hear Marvin’s feedback this week. (We didn’t play that well, and we gave the ball away. But we played hard and a bad snap cost us the game).

How many games have the Bengals had to climb back in only to lose on a bad call, bad play or bad snap? I’m sure that’s 4 of their wins this year. This team isn’t supposed to be in that position.

It’s time… :(

Comet, our ~15 year old Golden will be put to rest tomorrow.

Comet

He’s basically a walking tumor. He’s old, especially for a Golden his size. He used to weigh 95lbs on an average day.

Comet’s heath hasn’t been the greatest over the past few years. In fact he out lived Katie the Border Collie/Lab Mix. The reason we have Monty the Jack Russell is because we thought we were going to have to put Comet down 3 years ago.

We rescued Comet 12 years ago through the local Golden Rescue. He had been left outside during a blizzard and chained to a tree during some pretty harsh conditions.

He has been an excellent dog, great with all of our kids.

He will be missed.

World Market, redefining customer service.

WorldMarket

It’s not very often that you find exceptional customer service. In fact it’s nearly impossible today.

Being a call it as I see it person, I have no problem ripping a company on the blog if they deserve it. Which means when I come across someone, or some company that really went the extra mile we should give them their due.

A couple of weeks ago we bought a new dining room table. We purchased said table from World Market.

This table in fact: The Sourav Dining Table

349460 SouravTable82 DFL

We lucked into it on sale. No we didn’t really need a table, but that’s beside the point. We stuffed it in the Excursion and brought it home. Setup was painless, it’s just a HUGE table top and four legs.

The rustic/antique look goes perfect with our old farm house. The chairs we already owned matched it pretty well.

Fast forward about 2 weeks. We noticed a crack starting at one end of the table right in the middle. The top is basically 3 large boards and this crack was splitting the table right in the middle of one of the boards, not at a joint. When I first saw it I didn’t care that much, it added character. But my wife really didn’t like the fact that you could look through this crack and see the floor.

I immediately started dreading taking this 8 foot table apart, putting it in the Excursion, taking it to World Market and getting into a fight.

My wife called World Market, explained the situation and they said ‘No Problem’, we’ll take care of it.

What? Did I hear that right?

Yes, they ordered in another table, are delivering it (this is a 45 minute drive, not like it’s down the street) and picking up the old table. It took them a week to get the new table in, and we’re being flexible as to delivery. This time of year is busy for everyone.

So at the time of this writing, we don’t actually have a new table, but World Market is being very, very accommodating.

They will certainly get more of our business in the future.

Bengals In A Box

I found this photo on the net, and it’s the perfect new image to represent the Cincinnati Bengals.

TigerCub

a) They play more like Tiger Cubs than Tigers
b) Their outstanding Defense and line play has put them in the corner.

😀

Given the current level of play I’m picking them to finish 8-8 and out of the playoff chase.
