You’ve got to be kidding me.

“Bengals Put Ugly Loss In Past?” She here.

Which ugly loss would that be? The one in Tampa? Indy?

No team with 7 losses should ever make the playoffs, that should be a man rule. Yeah, yeah, any team can beat any other team on any given Sunday. But when you stink it up like the Bengals did, they should just be automatically disqualified.

I cannot understand how any team, especially the Bengals, for whom we have such high expectations could come out on Monday Night Football and lay such an egg.

It was Prime-Time and the game meant so much to the season. Chris Henry is a piece of work, even Chad dropped balls that were catchable and ‘must-catches.

The O-Line? We don’t have one. Yes injuries abound, but c’mon. This is the NFL, step up, earn your pay. Rudi broke one run, ONE, and a hell of a run it was, but he was caught for little or no-gain and ran over someone. That’s not his style, that was a fluke.

Rudy doesn’t run, or punish people the way Corey did, he has about as many juke moves as the ottoman that I rest my feet on. If the line aint working he isn’t going to make anyone miss or picking up anything extra.

The press, and Bengaldom still has ‘hope’. No, no, this team is not that good. The 8 arrests have nothing to do with it either. We have some star players, but they are being dragged down by less than mediocre play across the board.

I’m looking for wholesale changes on the D side next year, and a significant portion of the O needs to be gutted too.

Bengals STINK it up on Monday night football!

Wow!, no I really mean Wow!

Now, mind you I didn’t really expect them to win. Certainly I wanted, and hoped they would but I didn’t really expect it. I didn’t expect them to be so embarrassing. This is just the ticket to get the Bengals more prime time games let me tell you.

Chad Dropped 2 balls, Chris Henry is a piece of work, he didn’t eve reach for 3 balls that were catch-able, and even T.J. Who’sYourMamma dropped at least one. Although I give T.J. a lot of credit, he didn’t quit. I think Chad quit, and I don’t think C. Henry ever got started.

Joe Theisman is an idiot. I don’t know if you heard his comments or paid any attention to them. In the beginning of the show he said; “The colts run defense is ranked 32nd in the NFL, the only reason they aren’t ranked lower is because there aren’t 39 teams in the league”. So for a Defense that had given up 550 yards running in the last two games, you’d want to run the ball against them no? Later he said; “The Bengals game plan was fatally flawed, they tried to run from the start and you can’t do that against this team”. What an idiot.

Now as soon as you get behind as the Bengals did, which was exactly what they could not afford to do, they still ran the ball more than they should and didn’t get the results.

Rudi, isn’t all that folks, he never has been. If the line isn’t doing all the work and pushing the D around, Rudi gets nothing. He doesn’t have a move to save his life. When our O-line is as busted up as it was, we needed him (or someone) in the backfield keeping Carson from getting killed.

The Bengals won’t make the playoffs this year (as if that’s a big surprise at this point) bu write it down. My post season schedule has just opened up.

I hope this is the gateway to better things. Marvin you know who your players are and who the guys are that are just along for the ride. It’s time to cut them lose, and dare I say that might include your defensive coordinator too.

The last 3 weeks the defense has been extremely over-rated, they have only been successful because of who they’ve played. Put a decent team on the field and they are done.

Thompson Clan Christmas 2006

As usual, food was plentiful and nobody went hungry.

Santa made his appearance, (later than planned) but that was OK. I don’t care who you are, you’re never to old for Santa 😉

Kris won the Euchre tournament, and also our one game of Texas Holdem. However, Maggie came in second, and in the money 😉 defeating her brother, mother and father in the process.

Lots of fun was had. Photos are posted in the Dishers Gallery on Google [Click Here]

Maybe next year we can get the whole clan together again.

Kudos to Claudine for all the baking, Angie the ham was delicious and so where the hankypanks.

Merry Christmas?

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

It’s always something isn’t it?

Today I had the joyous task of putting a new alternator, and while I was at it a new serpentine belt, on the Excursion.

All in all this was simple as pie.

It all started a couple weeks ago. The battery light would come on every once in a while but only during harsh acceleration, like getting on the freeway.

Last night, Claudine got stranded on her way to the gym. The battery light came on and stayed on and the battery didn’t last nearly as long as it should have.

Seeing how everything was original (110,000 miles and 6 years old), I figured it was time for a new battery and if that didn’t do it, an alternator too.

I picked up Claudine and we went to NAPA and grabbed a new battery. This got us home but didn’t take care of the underlying issue, the alternator.

I did a little digging on the web trying to figure out just how much of a pain this was going to be, and honestly I couldn’t tell. There were reports of needing to cut the fan shroud to get the serpentine belt out, and/or loosening up the radiator and moving it around. Oh joy.

The alternator on the beast wasn’t cheap either. $208 for a new one as no remanufactured ones were anywhere near us.

Popping off the serpentine belt on the modular 5.4 liter v8 was simple. Loosen the tensioner with a ¾ ratchet and cheater bar and it slid right off. The way this thing is routed didn’t require me to cut anything or mess with the radiator or fan.

Replacement took about 40 minutes total, 25 to get things off, and 15 back on.

It’s ready to go for another 6 years of service.
