Bengals now 2-5 as expected.

Watching that game was down right painful and the outlook is now worse than before.

Buffalo beat the Jets and is now 3-4, and nope I don’t think the Bengals can beat Buffalo so we’re probably looking at 2-6 after next week. Equaling their poor start in 2004. They did get to 8-8 that year…

Key disappointments this week:

  • Play calling. Outside of the first drive, it was pitiful, and predictive as hell. When Palmer audibles with a closed fist, they are running. If I can catch that don’t you think the rest of the league has?
  • That gutless 4th and one call. You’ve got to be kidding me. Every team has a sure fire play to gain one yard. Generally a quick slant pass play that’s good for one yard and can’t be stopped. Given the score down 14-3 at the time, knowing you’re already 2-4 and haven’t stopped Pittsburgh all day you have to go for that. The whole complexity of the game changes if you make it.
  • Chad and TJ, though Chad more so than TJ. I understand these guys are getting played soft, and/or double teamed. When a team sits back and takes away the deep stuff, there’s all kinds of open stuff underneath. Good teams (will just pick you apart if you stick to cover-2, and force you to move up, thus opening the long ball. These guys have to get open, if they aren’t someone else is. You can’t blanket cover 3 wide outs and the tight end. Someone is open and Carson had time today.
  • Clock management. From the time O’neal intercepted that ball we should have been in the two minute drill. There wasn’t any sense of urgency with the Bengals. You can take your time and put together a 17 play 8 minute drive when you have the lead, not when playing catch-up. The Steelers drove 67 yards in 9 plays/2 minutes to and the half. I know you need to rest the D and keep the Steelers of the field, but you need points more at that stage of the game.
  • Challenges – my goodness who is Marvin getting feedback from? This person needs their eyes checked.

I thought last week that 4-6 was a possibility. I’m revising that to 3-7… The Bengals *might* steal a win in the next 4 weeks, and expect they’ll maybe finish 5-11 or worse 4-12. Of course adding Chris Henry to the mix will help but it’s not going to help enough.

The best part of today? My weekends have opened up considerably.

Bengals Week 1, off to a good start but…

Wow, what a game. I think *most* Bengals fans expected a win. But nobody expected this.

The talk of the town today will be the ‘D’ and with good reason.

When a team give you 6 turnovers, or a +4 differential you need to win by more than 7, and the game shouldn’t come down to a goal line stand.

The O? What the… Carson is awesome, no doubt about it, but that might as well have been Kitna. No wait, Kitna would have made a few more of those short passes that were just bad. Over thrown, on the wrong shoulder, behind the receiver. Was he trying to get TJ killed? Carson didn’t have a good night.

The D? Much more aggressive than anyone thought, but if it wasn’t for the fact that the Ravens ‘gave’ us this game by virtue of (6) turnovers. It would have been much uglier.

The corners still need work. A more mobile QB would have killed us last night.

Rudi, lets talk about Rudi. 18 carries for 50 years, one of those a 15 yarder, nice, but the highlight still was his give away. 1 good run by Rudi late in the game isn’t what we need. We’ll take it, but Rudi needs to make an impact, early in the game, not when the game is already decided. Take away the 15 yarder and you have 17 carries for 35 yards. That’s horrible, I don’t care who the other defense is. His fumble let the Ravens back in the game. I certainly hope he’s buying the defense dinner because they saved his bacon.

All in all though, that was probably one of the most up/down/exciting Bengal games I’ve watched in a long time.

Chad? That celebration was weak…

Bengals STINK it up on Monday night football!

Wow!, no I really mean Wow!

Now, mind you I didn’t really expect them to win. Certainly I wanted, and hoped they would but I didn’t really expect it. I didn’t expect them to be so embarrassing. This is just the ticket to get the Bengals more prime time games let me tell you.

Chad Dropped 2 balls, Chris Henry is a piece of work, he didn’t eve reach for 3 balls that were catch-able, and even T.J. Who’sYourMamma dropped at least one. Although I give T.J. a lot of credit, he didn’t quit. I think Chad quit, and I don’t think C. Henry ever got started.

Joe Theisman is an idiot. I don’t know if you heard his comments or paid any attention to them. In the beginning of the show he said; “The colts run defense is ranked 32nd in the NFL, the only reason they aren’t ranked lower is because there aren’t 39 teams in the league”. So for a Defense that had given up 550 yards running in the last two games, you’d want to run the ball against them no? Later he said; “The Bengals game plan was fatally flawed, they tried to run from the start and you can’t do that against this team”. What an idiot.

Now as soon as you get behind as the Bengals did, which was exactly what they could not afford to do, they still ran the ball more than they should and didn’t get the results.

Rudi, isn’t all that folks, he never has been. If the line isn’t doing all the work and pushing the D around, Rudi gets nothing. He doesn’t have a move to save his life. When our O-line is as busted up as it was, we needed him (or someone) in the backfield keeping Carson from getting killed.

The Bengals won’t make the playoffs this year (as if that’s a big surprise at this point) bu write it down. My post season schedule has just opened up.

I hope this is the gateway to better things. Marvin you know who your players are and who the guys are that are just along for the ride. It’s time to cut them lose, and dare I say that might include your defensive coordinator too.

The last 3 weeks the defense has been extremely over-rated, they have only been successful because of who they’ve played. Put a decent team on the field and they are done.

Bengals 4-2 after unimpressive victory over Panthers

But hey, a win is a win, and Chad got his plays in.

The Bengals skated by 17 – 14. They again came out strong, going 3 and out on their first 4 possessions and looked horrible in the first half. Amah Brooks is for real. He’s a monster, no doubt about it. As he settles in he’s certainly going to be a force.

The anemic offense did march down the field with some help from the Jaguars and the men in stripes, and they did make a few key plays when the needed to.

I really wish they didn’t leave us hanging the first half of every game.

Giving credit where credit is due, the defense played pretty well, as did dare I say it, Rudy.

Given the points the Atlanta put up today against the Stealers, next week should be a shoot out. I haven’t yet read what knocked Big Jen out of the game.

But I’m still concerned for our offense, more so than the defense.

But Chad’s catch on 4th down, well, that’s the Bengals I’m looking for.

Bengals get B*tch-Slapped by the Patriots 38-13 are now 3-1

Perhaps the Thurman and Henry issues on the team are bigger than anyone would like to think.

The look on Chad Johnsons’s face says it all:

It was horrible. The Bengals _stole_ a win in Pittsburgh last week and I think they took that for granted. Again the offense sputtered. Both initial drives should have resulted in 14 points and only ended up as 6. It was down hill from there.

The D? What D? The improved run stopping D that gave up 200+ yards on the ground? Man did it look bad. They need a real safety, and Big Nate, didn’t seem to help much today. They ran right by him like short bus passes the regular kids.

I must say I wasn’t fully expecting a win today. But I didn’t expect the Bengals to get blown out. Nope. I thought Chad would have a big day or if he didn’t Kelly Washington would because nobody can cover all 3 of our receivers.

I don’t know if Brooks played today other than special teams, but now that Thurman is out for the year and unlikely to be back as a Bengal that monster needs to see some play time.

Tory James got burned yet again, he is really starting to remind me of Rod ‘Toast’ Jones. I think that might be 3 weeks in a road he’s been beat bad for touchdowns.

C’mon Marvin get control down there. What happened to “Do Your Job?’

Teams that are doing their job don’t get blown out like that.
