The D stands for Dismal?

As Mark reports the Bengals defense has dropped to LAST in the NFL.

By allowing 595 yards, (601) by my math, they are now, or once again, the worst Defense in the NFL.

Here’s a few other D words that are appropriate: depressing, disheartening, doleful, despondent.

How about just plain Horrible?

Don’t worry though, because according to Marvin, they did OK, they executed well and followed the plan. There are just a few things that need work.

Forget the injuries, forget the fill-ins and the fact that 5 starters on Defense didn’t start. I’m not convinced that even with those players on the field the Bengals D wouldn’t be near the bottom.

Sheesh.

Bengals back to .500, Chad with another big day.

Already the sports casters on the radio are touting how good the Bengals looked today. Hrm.

10-3 going into the 4th quarter, and most of that was pretty lucky.

CinNO

It’s pretty amazing that you can give up 601 yards, (510 in the air and 91 on the ground, yet hold an opponent to 16 points, and win the game).

Obviously timely turnovers were HUGE. Without them this game would have been a lot rougher.

But a win is a win. Yeah, they have a lot of starters out, but the D played the run pretty good all in all. They couldn’t stop the pass to save their lives though.

Cleveland next week, should be a win, but based upon the past couple weeks let’s not count that chicken just yet. Cleveland has been in a lot of games and found a way to lose. Hopefully they will continue that trend. A loss next week to Cleveland would be devastating.

Bengals 4-5 it’s unbelievable.

Wow, that’s all I can say is wow.

Up 28 to 7 at half time.

BengalsBox

Given the momentum they had, all they need do is hold SD to 14 points a quarter, or even 17 points a quarter.

The offense looked great except for the blind side sack which caused the fumble which led to one of the touchdowns.

I understand our D is hurt, but there is no excuse for that. The Bengals were out-coached, it’s that simple. San Diego made adjustments, good adjustments for which there was not Bengals counter.

The Bengals were never as good as a lot of people thought. But they have the potential. Now only one game ahead of Pittsburgh and 3 back from Baltimore it will take a Miracle to salvage this season.

I don’t understand the collapse, in a must win game for you, in which you take a 28-7 lead into the locker room at half time. There is no excuse.

Bengals Blow It & Drop to 4 & 4

The Bengals blew it. Hell they blew it in the first 5 minutes of the game. You can’t let a team like Baltimore get up on you 14-zip.

3 and out, 3 and out, and the D can’t get off the field on 3rd down, same story different week. I’ve never, ever seen a team so weak on 3rd down on both sides of the ball.

If I can sit back and pick one of the two plays we run on 3rd down, don’t you think other defensive coordinators can? It’s like we have (3) plays for 3rd down, that’s it, hell the majority of the time it’s the same curl to T.J. which unless you’re going to get the pass interference call, isn’t working. The same play ended up with on 4th down.

Now I realize this is probably Carson’s 3rd, option on that play, but that seems to be the one he’s hitting with consistency, or missing rather. The Bengals are now 1-4 in the last 5. That’s not good.

Certainly they have some key injuries. Rich Braham, but this was more than likely his last year anyway. We should have someone ready to slide right in.

The Bengals are decimated at Linebacker due to injuries and suspensions.

But fellas, it’s time to step up. “Do Your Job??? as Marvin would say. We’ve looked bad, no, downright awful.

It’s certainly clear the NFL and its officials hate the Bengals. Week after week, a bad call has ended the game early or killed a drive that was going to put the Bengals ahead or tie it up. But the Bengals should not be allowing the game to be decided by the officials.

They shouldn’t be in that position to begin with.

Right now 8 and 8 looks mighty optimistic unless some things change significantly for the better.

I have one last observation after watching that game on TV:

Dick Enberg, it’s time for you to consider retirement. Being blunt, you suck.

‘Chris Palmer’ does not play for us. You referenced the Bengals as Baltimore at least twice, maybe three times. I do give you credit for being able to pronounce Houshmandzadeh. But that’s it. I think you need to be checked for Alzheimer’s, and if you don’t have it, then your preparation for the game and ability to deliver is unacceptable. Simply put, you’re past your prime, get out while people still think you’re good.

Andy Furman, 700WLW Good Riddance

bilde-1

Andy Furman, to know him is to either love him or hate him, there is no in-between.

He’s been on 700WLW for a long time. The Enquirer says 18 years. I don’t think he’s been ‘the’ personality for 18 years but he’s been around for a long time.

(pull)I know he’s been aggravating me and making Sports-Talk hard to listen too for a very, very long time(/pull). Sports fans listen to sports shows to talk about sports, not racial conspiracy theories.

Andy wasn’t always a bigot and a racist but he’s always been at or over the top obnoxious. That was just his style. Over the last few years however he’s really turned it up a notch or 10.

I completely understand there are sport figures and teams (the lowly Bengals who hadn’t won in 10 years would be in that group) who deserve to be dug into from time to time.

Talk radio is about stirring the pot. But Andy’s style was far too aggressive, far too obnoxious, and far too vile.

I don’t know if it was simply jealousy, or what. But it was always clear; Andy had no respect for anyone, except those who kissed his butt. No matter what the issue, Andy it seemed would turn it into a racial issue. I mean it really didn’t matter. Certainly there was a time and place, during the Cincinnati riots, where race was an issue and a top ‘button’ to push. But I never really understood how that affected our sports teams? Once in a while, there might actually be a race related story out there. But with Andy, playing the race card was a weekly occurrence.

People like to try and compare Andy to Bill Cunningham. Bill Cunningham is an entertainer, he’s also borderline obnoxious. But that’s his style. A style that was in place long before Andy came around. When Willey was on during the night time, he too was often controversial, the difference was, Willy made sense most of the time. Rarely did he reach beyond common logic.

Andy it appeared to me, tried to steal from Cunningham’s play book, only in a more vile and hate spreading way. Andy simply went way too far, too often, and I for one am surprised it took this long to get rid of him.

Nope, Andy you won’t be missed by many. Only those whose butts you’ve kissed along the way and somehow avoided offending. After all these years, I don’t know how many people that could be, maybe 5 or 6?

Good luck to you in your future endeavors.
