Faisel it's very likely that the 2nd gear dogs are going. Your transmission have been rounded off and are slipping. These holds the trans in gear And what you feel is them slipping out of gear under load. In 2007-8 they switched to a stronger gear with 4 instead of 3 dogs. Eventually you will lose 2nd gear and it will drop into neutral on you. It's about 2-3k to have the engine removed cases split and gears replaced.

Love the Website! Looking at buying a 2006 or newer FJR. Leaning towards the '06. Anything I should be concerned with? Any problems? Sold my ST1100 and love all the reports of the FJR.

Thanks

I've got an issue with the transmission or shaft drive or something on my 05 FJR. Only with hard full-throttle acceleration I'll get a microsecond of lost power on the bike. When it comes back it frequently jerks the bike before continuing the smooth acceleration. I've had the dealer look at it and they've found nothing...but charged me $600 for the service. Kind of frustrating. Anyone every heard of this or had something similar?

Great site!! You've done a bunch of work for all of us. I appreciate your effort. I just bought an FJR in May and am looking at everything especially, topboxes and mountings.

Well, I've been riding quite a bit and can say I enjoy the smooth power of the bike. I will, either through the winter or next spring, look at doing something with the windshield. I'm 6 feet tall and while riding at speed with the ws down, the air hits me "clean" to the bottom of my face shield. No buffetting occurs, but if I stand on the pegs, there is much less noise. Any suggestions? I am thinking either an after market or just cutting this one down a few inches. Shame really. I thought i would like the electric ws, but really do like the wind in my face.

Dave,

I have a 2006... So far there are only two recalls that I know of for the 2006 (Gen II bikes).

The 17 MPG instantaneous MPG issue, which requires your entire dash to be replaced, losing your odometer reading (which I don't want to do).

And the ECU recall. I've ridden this bike up to the top of pikes peak, and Mt. Evans and didn't have an issue so I likely won't participate in that either.

There is also a recall for the trunk/top box mount but I don't have a Yamaha trunk.

what year is the bike you are enquiring about the ecu, plate etc? i just bought a 2006 fjr and if there are any recalls, i would like to make sure i get them done. I'm in Canada, as well, not that it should make a diff.
Great site, thanks.

Thanks for the info on the tires. I'm over 9500 miles on the rear tire. Normal driving is 75 mph on cruise on breezeways so tire is pretty squared off but no cords showing yet although I think I'll order a new one tomorrow, same thing (Metzeler). Best mileage I've ever had on a rear tire on any of my bikes. Had the ECU recall done because I had the indicated problem with it on a trip to the mountains. Using a Garmin Zumo 450 GPS and MC Cruise control. Smoooth on the road but hard on the wrists in town due to a stiff throttle spring and a clutch that doesn't feather. 46 mpg on regular gas w/10% alcohol @ 75 mph and stock air filter (2-3 mpg less with K&N)
