Thank You Bengals

For years and years I’ve had a standing bet with a buddy of mine that the Bengals wouldn’t win 8 games. I was a Bengals fan, but I could still see them for what they are, despite all the hype. For the most part that’s been a very profitable bet for me.  2005 not withstanding and which by all accounts appears to be a fluke.

This year however I made a different bet with another buddy, a die hard Bengals fan.

When the Bengals jumped out of the gate with thier awesome 0 – 2 start, I bet a buddy they wouldn’t win 5 games.

Specifically the bet was:

[09/17/2008 11:24:49 AM] Matt Disher: Yes, if they win 5 or more of the remaining 14 (end up with a record of 5-11 or better), then dinner at All-You-Can-Eat-Meat is on me. (Wine not included)… 4-12 or worse and it’s on you.

What’s the Bengals record?  4-11-1

That’s equivalent to 4.5 games.

Which as my buddy points out is Not 5-11 or better, but is also not 4-12 or worse.

So it’s a tweener, and the bet is therefore nullified.

Again, thanks Bengals.

The Bengals are dead to me.

And I was so looking forward to another 8-8 (more likely 7-9) 2008 season.

Today they Bengals re-signed the king of thugs, Chris Henry

Why?  I have no idea.   He’s already suspended for the first four games.  I don’t care if TJ or Chad is hurt.  I really don’t.  This is silly.

Paul Daugherty is 100% right.

“It’s hypocritical, fraudulent and lacks integrity.”

It only proves the following:

  • Mike Brown is an idiot.  Paul Brown is turning in his grave.  While we’ve certainly suspected this for a long time, it’s now a fact.
  • Marvin has absolutely no control, and is a pathological liar. Early this week when the rumors were swirling he said; “Not Interested”.  Marvin’s flat out lied to the press and fans in the past so this really clears it up.   I do leave room for the fact that he personally has no interest, but this only clarifies that he’s powerless.

I highly suspect that he’ll be arrested for something by the 5th game so it won’t really matter.  No other teams were interested or he’d be playing for someone else by now.

Now who to root for and support this year?  That is the question.

Bengals waive Q. Wilson

Nice…

So Curnutte reports that the Bengals have waived running back Quincy Wilson.

I predict this will turn out being a bad thing.  I expect him to shine elsewhere.   Rudy blows, I don’t care how much he’s ‘bulked back up’ and is ready to return to his 2004-5 form.

Which was never really that impressive to begin with.  Lucky? yes, impressive? No.

It’s official… Chris Henry is an idiot

I know it’s not news, and if it wasn’t clear before it is crystal clear now.

He finally got reinstated last year, played well, and all he had to do was stay out of trouble.

There’s no getting through to some folks.

Details here.

Mike McConnell made reiterated his prediction that within 3 years of being out of football this guy will either be dead or in prison.  I whole heartedly agree and suspect that being out of football is right around the corner.

What a waste of talent.

NFL Meetings

So I read this today:

“In other votes, the winner of the pre-game coin toss now can defer to receive the ball until the start of the second half.”

What?  So if you win the toss you had to receive?  I always though if you won the toss you had the option.  If you had the option and you chose to ‘Kick’, well isn’t that the same thing?

Maybe it only worked that way in video games, but I’m fairy certain the ref has asked “If they want the ball”, then the other team gets to choose which end to defend.

So I don’t get what there is to decide here or why there’s a new rule.
