Hey Matt,

I really liked your write-up...and for what it is worth, I think you and your dad made the right choice...the recognition of finishing ANY rally isn't worth the possibility of doing yourself or others serious harm. You should always ride well within your limits and leave yourself a "reserve"...and besides, there is always next year and always other rallies (like the Rendez-vous rally on September 6th, 2008)(O-K, that was a really shameless plug...).

I, on the other hand, thought I had a fairly agressive plan, but then kept making up time throughout the day and had enough time to add an extra wildcard at the end before heading to Home Depot and checking in 14 minutes before the penalty started...and finished 7th (could have been 5th if I had not left some points at the table)(guess my plan wasn't agressive enough...).

Also, if you still have your original digital photos (with good resolution), take a good look at IMG 0007 (see above), I think you inadvertently took a picture of the sign at Michie Tavern...it was right down by the side of the road when you pulled in the driveway...I parked on the other side of the road and walked across to take my picture...

Cheers!

Thanks for the writeup, Matt. I was the rider on the red R-RS who arrived at the tavern as ya'll were heading out - and of course I had the same luck with the sign! Thankfully, Gary awarded the points, since I had the same picture of the sign with the changed hours that you have. Just wish I'd read the rally book more carefully about Stonewall's arm.

Sorry you weren't able to finish, but I'm sure we'll see each other again in the spring. Cape Fear, maybe? Looking forward to it.

Matt and Alan,

We really glad you could come out and play with us this year at The Void. And, both Scott and I are looking forward to your return next year...

Great write up and you did very well at capturing the intent and spirit of long distance rallying in your ride report.
